About

My Biography

My name is Chip Moeser. I currently reside in Queens N.Y.. I was born in Hartford, CT. I am a self-taught figurative artist working primarily in pencil, pastel and acrylics, my work explores my love, respect, and admiration for feminine beauty, both personal and physical, as well as a deconstruction of idealist concepts of beauty imposed by the media, stereotypical masculine viewpoints, and society in general.

My Statement

My work explores my love, respect, and admiration for feminine beauty, both personal and physical, as well as a deconstruction of idealist concepts of beauty imposed by the media, stereotypical masculine viewpoints, and society in general. My inspiration comes from women I encounter on a daily basis. Women in restaurants, banks, grocery stores, subways, buses, workplaces, friends, or even just walking by on the street all provide inspiration for me. Their feelings, emotions, charm, kindness, grace, walk, things they say or something as simple as the light gently cascading across their face can speak to me as something that I desire to capture on canvas as an expression of their beauty. I use shape, color, tone, light, and line to translate these sometimes less tangible concepts to a picture that I hope communicates to, and evokes in, both an emotional and intellectual response from the viewer. I do not believe in working from publicly induced “Ideals” of beauty, such as those put forth by media, or masculine stereotypes of what should be beautiful. I try in my work, to capture elements that I believe are individual to each model I work with. I try to see in each woman her own unique qualities that make her beautiful. It is because of this uniqueness I sometimes work in greatly contrasting styles to try and effectively communicate each models beauty as well as the complexities of the many different facets of beauty within each individual. I try to take individual expression a step further by not “Posing” or “Directing” the models I work with, allowing the model control over the environment, giving them a chance to say something about themselves, instead of me imposing my thoughts or feelings of beauty on them. I work primarily, though not exclusively with the nude for two reasons. First because I believe when an individual is nude they do not carry with them, or have the opportunity to express themselves with, outside influences of beauty such as fashion or glamour. Also I work with the nude as an appreciation for form and the appreciation I have for its diversity. As my work continues to grow I am always looking for new ways to see and express beauty in women, and I am working to expand my work to address deeper personal and contemporary social issues affecting them.
